Live Music blog- Metallica is not easy to duplicate and really like no other. Many bands are famous for a short period of time and then fade, but Metallica has been on top of their game for 2 decades plus. This group was formed October 28th, 1981 and they have been know worldwide since the mid 80’s. They are the 5th biggest selling group/artist of records in the world, just behind Celine Dion. This rating came from the Nielsen SoundScan, Brooks catalogue of January 4th, 2008. They have sold close to a staggering 100 million records worldwide.

The special effects Metallica uses during there live shows is amazing. They use laser lights, fog machines and an incredible sound system. James Hetfield and his Metallica bandmates are in the process of re-creating the Monster’s of Rock Tour they did in 1988. They did the 88′ tour with The Scorpions and Van Halen and hit over 30 stops in North America with some of the shows lasting up to 10 hours. This version will all take place in Europe and seven dates are already set. They will kick off the tour in Nijmegen, Holland, on June 20 and travels to Germany, Spain, Sweden and Finland before a two-night finale in front of up to 60,000 at Knebworth. This version will be called “Sonisphere” and has Slipknot, Linkin Park, and more that will be added to the undercard. They are hoping to expand on this concept and turn it global by 2010.

This should be a no holds barred kick-ass music extravaganza. I need to figure out how I can justify a trip to Europe to catch some of these shows. Metallica has certainly stood the test of time and will go down as truly one of the great groups and one of the great live shows.
