The story of rap music wouldn’t be complete in the absence of a look at the performers who make it all possible – the rap artists. Most rap music typically includes one or more rappers who a number of times rap about their personal individual life stories, necessary events in their lives, or social problems they wish to make a public statement about. Rap tunes may also represent romanticized or fictional themes. The sky is the limit. Musically, rap tunes a number of times have a strong rhythmic aspect with the spoken lyrics emulating the intense rhythm of the beat. Rap tunes are known to make use of many poetic techniques including simple word rhymes and alliteration.
The story of rap music also shows that the instrumental track or beat performed by the DJ a number of times includes the rhythms and beat “samplings” from popular and/or well-known funk, rock, or soul tunes. These sampled sounds and rhythms are synthesized, integrated, and reinvented with original twists by the performers.
Two other highly popular facets of rap music that saw their brisk growth into the American mainstream are break dancing and tagging (graffiti). Break dancers and taggers are now stars in their personal right with loyal followers and fans throughout the world. Annual break dancing competitions are now decidedly popular even in countries throughout Europe and Asia. The story of rap music may be considered relatively new, yet it is obvious ly a authoritative influence in today ’s music world. Clearly, the musical influence of New York(NY) City African American and Latino culture is now as pervasive world expansive as fast food hamburger chains.

This southern venue will transform anyone into a down south, alligator eatin’, Blue’s lovin, dancin’ machine! The Blue’s Foundation voted Skipper’s as the Best Blues Club in America in 2001 and with great reason. Just about every genre of music is represented at Skipper’s such as blues, cajun, zydeco, bluegrass, funk, rock, jazz, reggae, ska, and even comedy. Artists from around the world grace Skipper’s stage and jam out face to face with their fans. The atmosphere here is incredible and features graffiti style art on anything that can be painted…sometimes including people and is surrounded by huge live oaks offering a canopy of shade all year. Skipper’s can hold 800 people and anywhere you stand you have a great view of the music. Bands often like to pull fans on stage or run around the club with guitars in hand, so don’t be shy when going there! Skipper’s Smokehouse is even a licensed talent agency, so if you are an up and coming artist you may be able to book a gig and could soon be playing on the infamous “Skipperdome” stage in no time. Not only does Skipper’s offer world class music six days a week, it also boasts a southern style menu featuring fresh seafood, nightly specials, and a full bar. Over the years, Skippers has earned many awards such as Best Outdoor Restaurant, Best Grouper Sandwich, Best Key Lime Pie, Best Alligator, Hottest Wings, and Best Place to Meet People This is the only place where you could be chowing down on fresh oysters and jammin’ to a Grammy-winning blues artist at the same time. Skipper’s is open Tuesday through Sunday, so head on down and jam-out!

Mark this on your calendar for New Years Eve, December 31st, JJ Grey and Mofro are confirmed for a traditional SyncLive.com New Years Bash at Freebird Live. Freebird is located at 200 North 1st Street, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250, and you can get tickets for the epic performance by going on http://www.freebirdlive.com or by calling the box office at (904) 246-2473.

I don’t know if you are familiar with JJ Grey and Mofro (www.mofro.net), but they are one of the best live bands out there today. “Grey and Mofro fuse rock with plenty of soul and groove-heavy blues, and dirty, infectious funk. The deep and introspective lyrics are a breath of fresh air.” –Relix Like Florida’s state flower, the orange blossom, musician JJ Grey’s songs are fascinating, beautiful, and complex. Both are products of the same ground: the rich, fertile and ancient soil of the Sunshine State. Born and raised just outside of Jacksonville, Florida, Grey comes from a long tradition of Southern musical storytellers and, like the best of the great Southern writers, he fills his songs with details that are at once vivid and personal, political and universal. His multi-textured music overflows with dynamic rhythms and thought-provoking lyrics. From raw funk to deep soul, blues and rock, JJ and his band Mofro deliver devastating live and recorded performances. Debuting in 2001 with BLACKWATER, following up in 2004 with LOCHLOOSA (both albums reissued by Alligator in 2007), Grey steadily built an intensely loyal following. In 2007, with his first Alligator release, COUNTRY GHETTO, Grey reached an even larger audience, doubling both his album sales and his concert attendance. Now, with his new album, ORANGE BLOSSOMS, JJ Grey takes another giant step forward.

They will be webcasting their show exclusively on New Year’s Eve. If you are not in the Jacksonville area and can’t make it to the Freebird, make sure to tune in for the live performance on www.SyncLive.com.
